Pupils raising funds to bring Sir Lovealot home to St Thomas’

- HELEN JOHNSON

SCHOOL children are trying to trying to raise money to buy a giant frog they designed themselves in a charity auction.

Pupils from St Thomas CofE Primary School in Stockport spent hours designing and hand painting a huge ornate frog for the town’s Leap Frog art trail. Working with artist Pauline Wood, they used their own hand prints and chose bright, rainbow colours to reflect the themes of love and inclusivity.

Over the summer, their creation, which they voted to name Sir Lovealot, was placed outside the Light Cinema in the town centre, which sponsored the frog for the duration of the trail.

Sir Lovealot was one of more than 20 frogs designed by different organisations which were placed around Stockport, to celebrate the changes taking place in the town.

But now the trail has ended, most of the frogs are set to go to auction on Thursday, in aid of the Treehouse ward for children at Stepping Hill Hospital.

Teacher and art coodinator Lucy Gee says Sir Lovealot has become a figurehead for the school because of the message he represents, and says the children would dearly love to have him back permanently.

They have set up a fundraising page to give them a fighting chance of having enough money to buy Sir Lovealot when he goes under the hammer on Thursday.

Even if they do end up being outbid, they will still donate the money they raise to the Treehouse ward, as they will if they win the auction and have money left to spare.

Lucy said: “Our school is a nurturing place, we give a lot of loving care, it’s like a little haven.

“We wanted (Sir Lovealot) to represent how we help the children grow in a loving atmosphere, so he does mean so much to us.”
