Cupcake shop is just for mum

ADEVOTED daughter who learnt to bake growing up as a child says her new cupcake shop is a thank you to her mum.

Emily England opened Perfect Cupcakes in Bredbury a few weeks ago, and mum Vanessa England was among guests at the open day.

Sadly Vanessa suffered a terrible accident five years ago which has left her with severe brain injuries, something which strengthened Emily’s resolve to pursue their shared passion in business.

Opening it just before she turned 30, the shop also represented a ticked off item on her bucket list of things to do before the milestone birthday.

Former carer Emily, from Woodley, said: “The whole reason I am where I am is because of my mum. My mum used to bake constantly. We used to get our Christmas cakes ready in October, we would do Halloween baking, Easter baking, we were baking all the time. She taught me how to make pies and pastry and that’s where I got it from. She pushed me and gave me the skills to get where I am today.

“This was always a hobby of mine since I’ve been really young. I started a bit at home and it took off from there. I thought ‘why not get yourself a shop’?” Former Marple Hall school pupil Emily says her 52-year-old mum, who lives in a nursing home in St Helens, nearly died after falling down the stairs in 2014 and was left severely disabled.

She said: “Before my mum had an accident we were looking at doing a Farmer’s Market together.

“Unfortunately she had an accident and was never able to do anything again. She’s got a lot better over the years, but will never return home.”

Emily, whose partner is Ben Lawton, is now a mum in her own right to nine-year-old Ellie-Jane, who has cerebral palsy, and eight-month-old Frankie.

She added that cupcakes and brownies are her most popular items at the Stockport Road East store, as well as a treat box they sell for £7.

She said: “It’s been really popular. The shop sells out nearly every day, especially on a weekend, it’s been really good. I’m running it on my own at the moment but I’m going to employ staff.

“I have worked silly hours to get that shop going. I have to constantly bake all the time.”
