Rings of ire as couple are hit by a double disaster

“It’s not a great situation, it’s ridiculous that we’ve now lost two”

ACOUPLE’S bid to re-stage their marriage proposal after the bride-to-be lost her engagement ring was ruined when her fiance realised he’d lost the replacement.

Beth Whetton and her partner, Matt Robinson, who are both doctors from Cheadle, had initially got engaged in Barbados in February last year.

But just months after the proposal the 33-yearold anaesthetist lost her ring after placing it in the pocket of her scrubs while in surgery.

After more than a year without a ring on her finger, her 32-year-old fiance, who is also an anaesthetist, had planned to re-stage the proposal after booking a weekend away to Anglesey with their two-year-old daughter.

But before he had chance to get down on one knee at Red Wharf Bay beach on Sunday, he noticed the ring inside a box in his pocket was missing.

Miss Whetton said she is hopeful “it will be third time lucky” for the couple.

“We got engaged in Barbados the first time round, so we planned to visit somewhere equally as nice over the weekend so he could propose to me again,” she said.

“But before he had chance, he realise he’d lost the ring from his pocket.

“He only got it on Friday. We’d been playing on the beach with our twoyear-old daughter before he noticed it had gone missing, so we must have got distracted and not noticed it falling out.”

Miss Whetton said the ring, with a gold trim, was in a small Parry’s Cheadle Jewellers black box.

“We trawled the beach looking for it and went to the Ship Inn to see if it had been handed in there, but it hadn’t,” she added.

“It’s not a great situation, it’s ridiculous that we’ve now lost two.

“We’re not very hopeful of getting it back, but hopefully it will be third time lucky.”

The couple, both from Cheadle, who have no plans to get married before they welcome their second child next April, are now asking anyone who may have found up the boxed ring yesterday to get in touch on Facebook.
