Nomads’ bumper crowd

- DES HINKS

CHEADLE Heath Nomads are expecting a bumper attendance on Saturday, (Oct 19), when they welcome Macron Cup holders, 1874 Northwich, to the Proseal Stadium for a second round tie that kicks off at 2pm.

It’s a tough ask for Andy Gray’s men against a Northwich side that currently heads the NWCFL Premier Division, but the Claret & Blues won’t lack confidence after extending their unbeaten run to five games following a 3-2 victory over St Martins at the weekend.

Nomads were pushed all the way, though, by a Saints side boosted by a change of management and a raft of new signings.

It was against the run of play when Ash Stott fired the home side in front after 18 minutes, with substitute Ash Harrison doubling his side’s advantage after the break.

However, the spirited Shropshire side stunned the home fans in another excellent 100 plus attendance, with Jake Stinton scoring twice inside four minutes to level the scores.

George Blackwell had the final word, though, when he netted the winner deep into added time.

The victory hoisted Nomads into ninth place in the table, and Gray was quick to acknowledge St Martins proved difficult opponents. “It was a hard earned victory,” he said. “Even at 2-0 down Saints didn’t give up and when they equalised it looked like the points would be shared.

“But we managed to extend our winning run to three games when George Blackwell finished well, just before the final whistle.”

Cheadle Heath Nomads hugely popular Bonfire Night will take place at their stadium on Norbreck Avenue, SK8 2ET, on Friday, November 1.

With a licensed bar and BBQ it’s always a fun night for all the family.

The bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm with the firework display commencing at 8pm.

Admission prices are £3 (adults) and £2 (children).
