A6 potholes keep popping up but this one had swift demise
WE have more than enough potholes on our roads and the A6 constantly gets new ones.
Cycling into town recently I found a new one had just appeared, of sufficient size and position to be a real hazard to cyclists, especially once it got dark.
As soon as I got home I phoned the council to report it as urgent and was told I would have to submit the details online.
I did that and got an automated email saying they would look at it within five days. That seemed quite inadequate so I went back to move a road cone from the work on the footpath nearby, but when I got there I could not find any sign of the pothole. Was I imagining it? My phone camera said not!
Congratulations to the council roads department for their swift action in filling the hole and clearing the rubble. Julian, Heaton Norris
THANK YOU TO AMAZING STAFF
PLEASE can you include on your letters page my lovely experience of Stepping Hill Hospital.
I had an operation on a new hip replacement and the kindness and care I received has been wonderful, from the surgeon to the ward staff on M4. And on the return home I had four calls daily from rehab nurses.
They couldn’t do enough for me, well done our fabulous NHS!
Everyone has been so kind, thank you so much. Babs Myerscough, Hazel Grove
WE SHOULD GET TAX REBATE
TO try and combat the aggravated burglaries and car thefts which have been going on for so long in our area, how about we all deduct the cost of car trackers from our council tax bill, and also the cost to replace unsnappable door locks for our homes.
Because despite our council tax and other taxes paying for a police service, their service has been whittled down so much they simply can no longer protect us in our own homes.
Council workers and MPs claim expenses, why can’t we claim expenses for services we do not receive? I see car trackers for everyone as the only solution to the current trend of burglaries in our area. Paul Roberts via Facebook WHAT you’ve been saying on our Facebook page: ●●COUNCIL spent £884k on food hall revamp (page 8)
Geoff Dodd: Nearly half the money spent on making the building safe and structural repairs, money very well spent imo and as a result the whole market area has a new lease of life and other businesses are following. I think it’s probably the best thing to happen to Stockport for many years.
Laith Gibani: Absolute bargain. It’s a brilliant venue that’s been great for Stockport Market Place. George Alex Jones: An absolute jewel in the crown of the market place, totally revolutionised the area. A very good investment into an area previously crying out for support! Councillor Amanda Peers: Money well spent, great investment in our town centre after years of neglect and decline, absolutely pivotal to the transformation of the market place and the increased footfall speaks for itself.
Carrie Randall: Great venue but I do feel this amount of money should be spent on our schools and those in poverty.
John Waterhouse: So we have Stockport, a historic market town...without a market.
John Pearson: They spend nearly £1 million on a food hall in the Market Area, shortly before they announce [reduced open hours at] Stockport Museum. What price history, heritage and culture when we can spend our time stuffing our faces?
Lucy Gee: It does look great though and brought back to life a local historic building for people to enjoy for years to come.
Roy Driver: The funding was provided specially for town centre regeneration and could not legally be diverted to other services. It was used to regenerate a run down area that is now full of food outlets, pubs which attract thousands of people into Stockport town centre. What do people want, an empty town centre or regeneration? Try it out this weekend and stop criticising Stockport.
Nicholas Inman: Love this place. Money well spent if you ask me.
The produce hall will continue to receive my custom.
Sharon Bartlett: I’m glad everyone likes it so much. Please can those people take a look at the current council cuts consultations and complete the online questionnaires for the many areas under threat.
Jamie Birtles: £900k well spent. Love this place and regenerating effect it’s having around the market
Renee Harrison: Bring back the outdoor market, it’s a market town!
Corey McVann: It’s one of the only decent things in Stockport. The rest looks like the apocalypse.
Ceri-ann Brown: Plz don’t cut SEN transport budgets then spend money on this Stockport council. £900k and it has taken how long of people begging and petitioning for changing places.
Gill McCullagh: I don’t think it looks great, I found it quite basic and uncomfortable. The food wasn’t great, won’t be going again. Antony Bancroft: The place is empty every time I pass it on my way home from work. John Waterhouse: And what did the outside traders get?
