Match play is a piece for cake for Jo

- GEOFF GARNETT

IN a tense ladies singles match-play semi-final at Bramhall Golf Club, Jo Lingwood turned the match on its head after being four down after nine holes.

A piece of cake at the lodge on the tenth tee provided by Jack Kirwan, settled her nerves and standing on the tee on the par three tenth Jo chose her rescue five-iron and made a good connection and – whoop – a direct flight pitching before the green, and rolling nicely on towards the pin. Both Jo and her opponent Carolyn watched as the ball gently ambled up to the flag and disappeared from view.

Amazing! Shrieking in disbelief and jumping up and down shamelessly they certainly let the golfers on the 7th and 13th fairways know of their excitement.

This was a turning point in the games and eventually Jo won on the 19th!
