Jones’ 69 secures President’s Trophy at Avro while Unsworth wins at BP

THE President’s Trophy at Avro was won by Derek Jones with a neat 69 taking him two shots clear of Phil Normanton and Neil Flood.

The same number 69 saw Phil Normanton win a medal at Avro from Peter

Walker 71 and Ian Hallworth 73.

A singles Stableford at Bramall Park was won by Jason Unsworth with 42 points taking him clear of Neil Denham 41 and Lewis Battersby and Chris Murthi, both 40.

Bramhall’s men also in Stableford mode with Gary Smith on top with 42 points well clear of Captain Ian Denby39 and David Detheridge­38.

Bramhall ladies played a Stableford and top of the four divisions were Claire Fitzpatric­k 34, Lynn Simpson 30, Anita Morris 28 and Ruth Seabrook 30 with the 9-hole winner being Janet Ballard with 16.

The first Autumn/ Winter Stableford for Hazel Grove’s men was won by Raymond Palmer with 42 points, one more than James McClellan, Iain Cole and Phil Thorley.

The second winter Stableford at Grove was led in by James Shiel with 38 points from James

Morris 36 and Philip Baines 34.

A pro’s Stableford at Houldswort­h was won by club legend Peter Burgess after a cpo on 40 points with David Conville, one more than Leonard Crompton and Paul McCallum.

Houldswort­h ladies were in medal mode and first past the post was Christine Waterfield with 76 from Editha Sellars 78 and Deborah Hewitt 79.

Marple’s men played the first round of the Winter League and B Newcombe and W Derrywere top of the shop with 34 points from L Clements and D Garnett 33 and G Baines

and P Turnbull and M Burke and C Osborne, both 32.

Marple ladies played a 10-hole Stableford and Janet Singleton won a cpo on 18 points from Linda Rogers, one more than the much-travelled Jean Oates.

Mail Foursomes and B Hunt and R Hudson will represent the club in next year’s nation competitio­n after posting 68.5 to finish ahead of W Flaherty and A Gee 69.0 and A Mooney and R Gregory 69.5.

Alliance featured in two of their main Inter Club KO finals

Lowes Park Golf Club were again excellent hosts for the final of the Williams BMW Junior Team final with their challengin­g course in good condition despite some awful weather prior to the final day.

The final was contested between Ringway and Rossendale and was a very close contest with Ringway emerging as the winners by 3/2.

It is the first time in the long history of the event that Ringway have won the competitio­n which is a great achievemen­t for their team and club.

Ringway junior organiser Isobel Parry said: “It’s been a good season as the team also won the Gleneagles Division of the Mid Cheshire Junior League and reached the league play-off final at Warrington where we finished in third spot.”
