AROBBER who targeted the same elderly widow twice in as many weeks as she walked home from a supermarket has been jailed.

Police hit out at an ‘abhorrent and shocking pair of incidents’ as Lee Davenport, from Hazel Grove, began a prison sentence of more than seven years.

In the first of his two attacks on 76-year-old

Anne Willis, he threatened to stab her if she didn’t give him her handbag.

She was badly injured in the second robbery and taken to hospital where she spent two days.

A court heard the injuries she suffered at Davenport’s hands meant she could no longer live alone or care for herself.

“To be a victim once is bad enough, but to be a victim of robbery twice is terrifying,” said Detective Constable Jonathan Greenslade.

“It is even worse that the second time, the lady was badly injured. This was an abhorrent and shocking pair of incidents which has caused immense distress to an innocent elderly resident in our community.”

Davenport, 39, of Mount Pleasant, Hazel Grove, pleaded guilty on Monday to two counts of robbery.

At Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court, he was jailed for seven years and two months.

The court heard that on both occasions, Davenport mugged Mrs Willis as she walked home from a nearby supermarket.

On June 10, he approached her on Bramhall Moor Lane, Hazel Grove, and threatened to stab her if she didn’t give him her bag, police said.

He snatched it from her grasp then ran off.

The court heard how up to £300 was withdrawn from her account before she had chance to cancel her bank card.

Davenport robbed her again just 13 days later on June 23 after she left the supermarket carrying bread.

A GMP spokesman said: “He again randomly approached her close to the

George and Dragon pub and demanded that she give him her bag.

“Davenport then pulled the strap of the bag from the woman’s shoulder, causing her to fall and suffer a severe injury to her right shoulder which later required hospital treatment.

“Police arrested Davenport a day later and he was later charged on two counts of robbery.”

Mrs Willis’ niece Angela Butler added: “He (Davenport) is scum. He says he has got remorse. He has been trying to run the show from day one, but they saw right through him. “How would he have felt if somebody had done that to his nana or Mum? I can’t understand what goes through these people’s minds. She can hopefully start living her life again now, not in fear.”

The two attacks sparked outrage in the community at the time.

After her ordeal, kindhearted neighbours and well-wishers helped raise more than £1,000 for Mrs Willis, which she said she planned on using to pay for a holiday in Wales with a friend.”
