The main guests were Jenny Clink, the President of England Golf and guest speaker Dr Bruce Taylor a Past Captain of Royal Liverpool Golf Club and a member of the Royal and Ancient Club of St Andrews.

There were also representatives from other counties and golf organisations enjoying the occasion led by Cheshire President Andrew Henshall (Wilmslow Golf Club) helped by Master of Ceremonies Past President Chris Moore (Royal Liverpool Golf Club).

There were groups from many of Cheshire’s member clubs and a fine array of past Cheshire Presidents and officials also enjoying the occasion.

Jenny Clink was the first main speaker and she outlined her great career in golf and paid tribute to the work and success of the CUGC over the years leading to its Centenary in 2020.

The President gave a humorous account of his love of the game, saving the usual account of the County’s performances on the courses of Cheshire for the AGM in February.

He also paid tribute to all the guests with some amusing information about them all, most especially his old school pal Bruce Taylor, the guest speaker.

Andrew toasted his successor and the President for the Centenary in 2020, David Durling (Shrigley Hall) and announced that Reg Maddock (Wilmslow GC) was the new Deputy President Elect.

He also made special awards to Jim McBride for his excellent work in running Cheshire competitions for many years and to Chris Harrison of Sandiway who is stepping down from being the Team Captain after a successful five years in the role.

The final presentations were to Mike Harrington (Prestbury) as Player of the Year and Jack Brooks (Mere Golf Club) as Order of Merit winner.

The excellent evening was wound up by Dr Bruce Taylor with an amusing account of his long association with the President going back to their days at school and early golfing experiences of playing golf with their fathers. A theme he ended on by saying we should all enjoy playing golf with our parents and children and cherish the memories we get from playing with them.
