Reddish outfit capture the crown

- BOWLS JAMIE BRAMLEY

HOULDSWORTH WMC finally sealed the S and D top division championship during October.

In a stop start season the side from Reddish came out on top by 5.5 points ahead of Hyde challengers The Grapes.

It all came down to the final match with Houldsworth crusing passed Whaley Bridge in a one sided match at Leamington Road.

At the bottom of the table Woodley Sports amd Nursery were relegated after disappointing campaigns. The big story in B Division was LMRCA who achieved there first ever promotion since being formed in 1982.

The men from Edgeley chased home Houldsworth (3) and secured the divisional rise with a cool win over Victoria (2).

It was an extremely tight B Division and LMRCA will now looks to add players and can expect to cause sides difficulty on there extremely hard home green.

The problems at Nursery continued as there second team was relegated along with Great Moor (3).

Despite the first team missing out on the league title Grapes second team sauntered to the third division title.

It was nice to see Crown Hotel’s recent fall through the leagues rectified as they sealed the runners up berth.

At the bottom of division 3 West Heaton just survived meaning relegation for both Victoria (3) and Navigation.

The basement division saw the title go to Hazel Grove who just staved off both Houldsworth (4) and Stockport CC.

The Cup prize in the Stockport and District League went to George and Dragon who always had control of The Adshead final to see off past winners Poynton Sports.

I am sad to report the passing of South Reddish member Neville Hodson who had been ill for some time.

Neville was a fantastic character on and off the green and a really good bowler to boot.

Neville played for South Reddish all his life and also represented Cheshire County Parks he will be sorely missed around the greens of Stockport.
