Iddon secures move to top race team
STOCKPORT rider Christian Iddon has signed up to ride for Britiain’s most successful motorcycle racing team, PBM Ducati for the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship season.
The Penrith-based squad has won no less than seven BSB titles, including the 2019 crown with riders Scott Redding and Josh Brookes. Christian will partner Brookes, and the Australian welcomes Iddon’s arrival at the team.
Brookes said; “For Christian, I think joining the team is a great opportunity for him. As a rival I recognise his potential and I believe the team can supply everything needed to bring him to the front and be a championship contender.”
PBM Team Owner Paul Bird added; “Christian has suffered nothing but bad luck in recent seasons, so this is his best chance. The opposition have seen what we can do with a raw rookie in Scott Redding so with two very experienced riders on board, we are hopeful of continuing our success with Ducati in BSB.”
Iddon will ride a factory-backed PBM Ducati V4 R for a crack at the 2020 Championship after claiming Riders’ Cup honours in 2019, despite suffering a broken leg, and the Stepping Hill born former Supermoto Champion is relishing the opportunity.
Christian said; “I’m absolutely over the moon to be joining seven-times champions PBM, they absolutely have the credentials, and for me to get that opportunity, I really want to that Paul Bird and PBM as I’m fully aware that all of this paddock and pretty much every other paddock would have been knocking their door down trying to get that seat.
“I’m a big advocate that hard work pays off. Results haven’t been as I’d hoped for over the last few seasons, but this to me is a result, and this is hopefully the start of good things to come, I absolutely plan to grab this opportunity with both hands and make the most of it.
“Thank you to everyone who supports me, I’m really excited for this new chapter in my racing”.
