Together we will progress

I AM going to dip into my copy of ‘Tired Old Bromides’, and start by saying that ‘When the Going Gets Tough, The Tough Get Going’!

Are times tough just now at County?

When you compare just how bad the plight of some clubs in the region is, and how bad things have been for County since the heady days, about a decade ago, when James Gannon had us not far from the Championship again with his exciting young team – no.

With James largely not in charge, our history since then is dismal at best, but with our current (at the time of writing) owner’s inspired decision to re-engage James, the seemingly inexorable slide down the football pyramid was halted, and promotion last season reversed the slide, taking County back into the National League, an essential first step back towards the Football League.

At the start of the current campaign County’s manager, warned that, faced with a division packed with full time teams, there would be a period of adjustment and lost games along the way.

He was correct, we have lost some games, and will lose more, before we start to get where we want to be.

JG was correct also to give last season’s title winners a chance at the higher level, and he can be relied on to sort issues that need sorting as the season progresses.

At County’s game with Woking, when we were losing 3-0 late on, I could hear to my right a tremendous wave of singing and chanting emanating from Yellow Block on the Vernon Stand (Pop Side).

They were magnificent, and if County supporters can take their lead from those excellent fans, and get behind team and manager, it will not be long before we make the progress we desire.
