Alby lifts the lid on infamous VIP box shenanigans at Cheltenham

-

A FORMER Stockport County star caught up in the ‘carnage’ at an infamous racing festival has spoken for the first time about the incident.

Striker Aaron Wilbraham was among a host of stars snapped in notorious scenes in a VIP box at Cheltenham Festival in 2016.

The incident involved a model flashing her chest, excess and - infamously pictures of players urinating into pint pots in full view of the crowds. The story made national headlines at the time.

Several players apologised in the aftermath and some of the clubs involved issued statements.

Speaking to the podcast Undr The Cosh, Wilbraham said: “We went there and my agent had a box. It was a free bar and before you knew it, this box was rammed.”

But the paparazzi there to photograph the models also caught something else - some of the footballers urinating into glasses and pouring them out onto a lawn below.

Wilbraham said: “They [the stewards] needed people to get out for health and safety but no one wanted to leave.

“Every time someone went to the toilet they weren’t letting you back in.

“The lads were dying for a p*** so they were pi **** g in pint glasses on the balcony. They weren’t throwing them they were just laying them down.

“They didn’t want to go because they wouldn’t get back in the box for the free bar.”

That version of events was backed up at the time by Gloucestershire Police, with a spokesperson explaining the box was lower down and the urine merely ended up on an empty lawn.

Wilbraham, who now plays for Rochdale, scored 35 goals for County between 1997 and 2004.
