Man spared jail after attack on girlfriend

-

ATINDER ‘monster’ has been branded a danger to all women by one of his-girlfriends after he put her in fear of her life during a nightmare date.

Ministry of Defence electrician Jonathan Edwards, 43, of Heaton Mersey grabbed dental nurse Lisa Dryzymala by the throat and choked her until she could barely breathe when he became wrongly convinced she was still seeing her ex-partner.

During the assault, on June 29 this year, paranoid Edwards also tried to suffocate the victim by placing his hand over her nose and mouth saying: “I swear to god I am going to kill you you’re not getting out of here alive!’’

She eventually managed to break free and flee barefoot from her family home in Moston, Manchester.

Edwards, who is known as Joe, was arrested after he texted Miss Dryzymala, 38, saying he was outside the home of the father of her two children and was vowing to burn it down with her eight year old daughter inside.

One text message read: ‘’When we’re in court you can read out your text messages and I will be f..king smiling.’’

In a statement, Miss Dryzymala told police: ‘’I never imagined I would be one of those women who fall victim at the hands of a monster. I feel for any woman that may find herself with a relationship to Joe. I think he is a threat to women he causes me great concern. ‘’

She added: ‘’Since the incident I have completely changed as a person used to be happy and outgoing and confident. Now I feel anxious, down and have a self esteem which has been stamped on.

“This was a horrific attack at the hands of someone who claimed to love me. He turned into a monster that night and I don’t know if I will ever trust a man again I feel he’s jeopardised any future relationships for me.

‘’Your home should be your safe place of sanctuary and that you are happy to be in it. But my home now holds traumatic memories and I feel on edge and anxious if I hear noises outside.

“I’m frightened to sit with my French doors open and I’m nervous at night when I have to let the dog out. I cannot sleep with the bedroom window open anymore.

‘’He has taken my safe place and my sanctuary away from me. It has also affected my eight year old daughter who is fearful of being at home at night in case he comes back.

“I have flashbacks especially when I go to bed. I dread to think what might have happened to me if I had not found the strength to get out alive.

“Patients I treat may know my personal business and I have been off work again with a massive breakdown. My doctor prescribed me anti depressants to help me through this stressful period and receiving counselling to help through this ordeal.

“I feel very vulnerable and I hope one day can put this behind me.’’

At Manchester magistrates court Edwards was sentenced to 16 weeks jail suspended for two years and was also ordered to pay his victim £250 compensation after he was convicted of assault by beating and sending a threatening text message at an earlier hearing. The court heard the pair had met through the online dating app in July last year.

They saw each other onoff for 11 months but problems began when jealous Edwards was a family event only for Miss Dryzymala to sit at the front of the church with her child’s father..

Edwards denied being violent towards Miss Dryzymala.

Appearing unrepresented he told the court: “Every time this story gets told it become a little bit more dramatic and elaborate. I know I have done a lot of wrong but it has just been blown out of all proportion. Lisa said we got on really well and we did up till this night but then I caught her cheating. I said a lot of things I shouldn’t have and there was pushing and shoving - but no strangling. I was just really upset and angry.”

Sentencing, chairman of the bench Monica Sim also ordered Edwards not to contact the victim for two years under the terms of a restraining order: “These were very serious assaults and telephone texts.

“If you breach this order you know what’s going to happen to you.’’

Edwards was also ordered to pay £250 costs.
