Dramatics of wrong kind for Ebbsfleet

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

FOR a long time on Saturday it looked like it was going to be one of those games where one team, County, have all the possession, all the chances but come away with a defeat after the other team, Ebbsfleet, have a single solitary break and score.

Thank goodness for Sam Walker and his ability from a dead ball is all I can say.

If I were an Ebbsfleet supporter and had to put up with that style of play I think I’d have found myself something better to do with my time, they were quite possibly the worst team we’ve seen since we fell into non-league, I don’t mean ability wise because they can play but the theatrics employed were those of three-year-old children!

How many times did one of their – and I use the term lightly – men, fall over after the slightest of touches a swear a couple of them just sat down for treatment because they wanted a rest.

The tactic of walking away with the ball at every opportunity was eventually punished but far too late in the game.

The referee wagged his finger, then had a word but it wasn’t until deep in the game before he showed a card and even then it was to a player who just seconds before had “dived” to try and win another free kick.

If Mr Rhodes had had any spine he’d have clamped down on such shenanigans a lot earlier and to cap it all he booked Jordan Keane for being run into, very odd.

As a game of football, we should have won it in the first half, Ben Jackson had at least three decent chances and Frank Mulhern was very unlucky to see his header come back of the crossbar but we were in control and it wouldn’t be long before we had the game sewn up, wouldn’t it?

Of course not, this is County and from a dominant position we conceded.

The men from Kent broke, the ball fell to Adeloye who took an age to make up his mind as to what he was going to do with it, we sat back, he shot right at Ben Hinchliffe only for Festus to get in the way and deflect the ball into the net.

There was still plenty of time but as County’s chances were either high, wide or fumbled, the nerves were well and truly fraught before Sam’s late equaliser gave the faithful some cheer at least.
