Nomads’ work rate leaves Millers reeling

- DES HINKS

CHEADLE Heath Nomads extended their unbeaten league run to nine games with a workmanlike 2-0 victory over New Mills at the Proseal Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Richard Tindall opened the scoring with a brilliant header on 17 minutes. Ashley Crank whipped the ball in from the left and the Nomads skipper still had a lot to do, but he got across his marker to power home a header for his third goal in as many games.

Eight minutes later the Claret & Blues doubled their advantage with another goal of real quality. Kyle Foley, a midweek signing from

Stockport Town, received the ball with his back to goal, turned past a Millers defender and fired home from just outside the box. It marked an impressive debut for the quick-healed 20-year-old.

Millers came more into the game after the break, but there was such a steely determination about the Nomads defending that Aaron Tyrer wasn’t forced into a save of any note.

Nomads’ manager, Andy Gray, was delighted with the application of his resolute team.

“We executed our plans in the first half superbly,” he said. “We didn’t let them play and hunted them down from the first whistle and we thoroughly deserved our two, terrific goals.”

On the flip side, Millers joint boss, Dave Birch, was left disappointed with his side’s showing in the first 45 minutes. “We were poor in the first half,” he acknowledged. “We didn’t match Nomads’ work rate and that cost us the three points.”

Our local outfit head down the M6 this Saturday to take on Stone Alleynians and then face two more away games against FC Oswestry Town and a Vauxhall Motors side currently boasting 14 consecutive victories.

The next game at the Proseal Stadium is the derby against Wythenshawe Town on Saturday, December 21.
