Fine run ends in double defeat

- DES HINKS

CHEADLE Heath Nomads’ long unbeaten league run ended with successive defeats in just five days last week.

Cammell Laird became the first team to beat the Claret & Blues since August, when they won 1-0 at the Proseal Stadium last Tuesday.

Nomads were left kicking themselves, though, as they missed a host of chances, before Cameron McGregor popped up with the winner for the Wirral side with just minutes remaining.

Looking to bounce back at Stone Alleynians on Saturday, Andy Gray’s men found themselves 2-0 down with just 17 minutes on the clock.

Nomads composed themselves, though, and halved the deficit through recent signing Kyle Foley ten minutes later.

However, a second half recovery didn’t materialise and the Staffordshire promotionchasers added two more goals to run out 4-1 winners.

Gray pulled no punches afterwards.

“Second half we started ok, but a goalkeeping error gifted them a third goal,” he said.

“Floodlight failure and a lack of discipline then threw us off our game plan and we capitulated badly.

“In truth the final scoreline of 4-1 flattered us as we could have lost by a lot more.”

Nomads were in action again last night, (Dec 10) when they made the long midweek journey to tackle FC Oswestry Town.

And, on Saturday, they face, arguably, their most difficult test of the season when the head down the M53 to face a Vauxhall Motors side looking more than a good bet to lift this season’s Division One South title.

The next home game at the Proseal Stadium is the following Saturday, December 21, against near neighbours, Wythenshawe Town. The derby will kick off at the usual 3pm.

Nomads Reserves got back to winning ways on Saturday with a vital 3-2 victory over Moore United.

Ash Harrison, with a couple, and Daniel Clarke were on the scoresheet for the Claret & Blues.
