Stranger tried to drag girl into van

Warning after high school pupil was chased by man

AWARNING has been issued after a girl was reportedly ‘chased’ by a stranger who tried to drag her into a van.

The incident is understood to have happened in Cheadle Hulme.

The incident is understood to have happened in Cheadle Hulme on the afternoon of Wednesday, December 4.

It is understood the student - who is in year 7 at Laurus Cheadle Hulme - was at the junction of Orrishmere Road and Cheadle Road, opposite the Cheadle College, when she was approached by a ‘young male’.

He is said to have chased the girl before trying to drag her into a white van.

In warnings to parents and guardians, the ‘male’ was described as white and wearing a black and yellow coat.

A message that was sent to parents on the day by Laurus Cheadle Hulme read: “We regret to inform you that one of [our] students has been approached by a young adult male on her way home from electives this afternoon.

“Please remind your child not to speak to strangers or to be enticed into a vehicle.

“The incident has been reported to police and we have notified all of the local schools.

“We have advised students who are still in school to travel home in small groups wherever possible.”

Oak Tree Primary School also contacted parents about the incident.

The message included a descriptio­n of the man as well as the location of the incident.

It said: “This evening we have been informed by Laurus Cheadle Hulme that a Year 7 student was chased by a young white male dressed in a black and yellow coat who attempted to pull her into a white van.

“This incident took place at the junction of Orrishmere/Cheadle Road at the end of the school day.

“Please can you be vigilant and if your children walk to and from school alone, please remind them about how to keep themselves safe.”

Several other schools including Cheadle High School - are also understood to have issued warnings, with parents being asked to collect their children from within school grounds.
