Soundbites offering hope for the future

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

IT’S been a truly momentous week for County, the takeover saga has finally ended and we appear to have an owner with money he doesn’t mind spending.

The rumours surrounding Mark Stott have been going on for months and the “will he, won’t he” scenarios posted all over social media look to have proved true.

In an interview he speaks with passion about our club and the promises of team investment, training ground and full time football will be seen as brilliant news.

Fingers crossed because some of us are old enough to have heard it all before, remember Melrose or Evans? Chancers both! Marc at least is a Stockport man and I for one think we could be about to witness a bright future.

If Mr Stott was at either game at EP last week he’ll be acutely aware of our weakness, two games and only four attempts on goal in 180 minutes of football.

Against Dorking, for the FA Trophy replay we were completely out played in every department and the 0-4 score line wasn’t a fluke.

The “cocks” had a game plan and they stuck to it and quite frankly embarrassed more than one of the men in blue, their second goal was a thing of beauty, from a County throw -in deep in enemy territory they win the ball and five touches later the ball’s in our net!

We had a free kick from Sam Walker that found itself in the keepers’ hands, a header from Adam Thomas that hit the back of the net but was disallowed and a weak shot from Festus in added time.

We got nothing but truthfully, we didn’t deserve anything, at least that was the view of the referee, I’m holding back but he was the worst yet.

On Saturday Sutton made their first ever visit to EP and on the back of a decent run of late but we, without creating much, held our own.

The game was very much like the reverse fixture back in October, Sutton missed a couple of good chances while we never really looked like a threat and we had a clear cut penalty appeal turned down, déjà vu almost.

Now I know that might sound unfair, we did after all have three new players who’ve only had one training session but they all know where the goal is and the fact we only had one attempt on target, a free kick from McAlinden didn’t exactly set hearts a flutter, there was a big crowd hoping/ expecting County to rise to the occasion, it didn’t happen but I’m sure it will.

Keep the faith, come on County.
