Raider smashes his way into store

-

THIS is the moment a burglar smashes his way into a family-run shop closed due to the coronavirus lockdown.

CCTV footage shows the thief appearing to use a rock to break a window next to the front door of Amadi Home furniture store in Stockport on Saturday night.

After spending less than two minutes inside he makes off with a vase and a mirror worth £450.

It’s thought the damage to the window and door will cost more than a £1,000 to repair.

The Buxton Road shop, which opened in September, is run by husband and wife Budu and Greta Amadi.

Greta, 27, said: “It’s unbelievable. I just feel like crying.

“We are a small, family-run business.

“The shop’s closed because of the lockdown and it’s our only source of income.

“To replace the glass will cost £1,000 - the things they took are only worth a few hundred.”

Budu, 32, added: “I can’t believe that at a time like this someone has the mentaility to do this.

“I just feel pity for them. They have no respect for anything. It’s a disgrace.

“I’m going to have to upgrade all our security systems to try stop it from happening again because we are terrified they might come back.”

It’s thought a second man kept watch from across the road while the break-in took place at about 10.40pm.

The pair then escaped in a silver hatchback, which was parked in a side road next to the shop.

Greta said an eyewitness spotted the burglary in progress and called the police, who were on the scene within minutes.

She added: “The police must have missed them by seconds. They just got away. They were seven or eight police officers here within minutes. I want to thank the police for being so responsive.”
