CPO propels Ken into top spot at Avro

A MIDWEEK Stableford at Avro needed a cpo on 37 points to see Ken Fairfield into top spot from Chris Robinson, one more than Peter Hale.

Winter League action at Bramall Park saw R Milburn of top with 37 points, one more than Robert Harris.

The fourth Winter Stableford at Hazel Grove was close with Gerald Dignan winning a cpo on 35 points from Marc Stevens ahead of Phil Torley 34 and Chris Stewardson 33.

Grove’s ladies were also in Stableford mode and in division one Elaine Beswick led in with 22 points from Kathryn Wardle-Davies 20 with June Dawson winning a cpo on 19 from four other players.

In division two Lindsey Withers was in a league of her own with 24 points from Christine Schofield 20 and Sylvia Cockell and Elizabeth Russell, both 19.

Janet Metcalfe was even more in charge of division three posting 26 points to lead in from Indu Ghelani 20 and Jacqueline Dootson, Catherine Buggy and Jill Oehlcke, all 18.

A BB medal for Marple’s men was won by the dynamic duo of J Platt and S Walker with 33, two less than J Bowden and D Wilson, P Wilkinson and R Allcock, G Hallam and G Hague and G Jones and S Mellish.

Marple ladies played a singles Stableford and top of the shop with 31 points was June Chadwick, three more than Kay Weeks and Kay Gould-Martin.

A Three Man Team Stableford at Stockport was won by A and H Hussain and N Foster with 69 points taking htem ahead of R Desai, A Wickes and R James 68 and J Morley, A Carrier and J Lau 66.

A Sunday Stableford at Reddish Vale was won by Pete Woofinden with 39 points, one more than Captain David Hamilton and Jack Crowther.

A Saturday Team of Three Stableford had John Northrop, Anthony Phillips and Sean Singleton untouchabl­e with 95 points leaving them in a different atmosphere from Duncan Hayes, Graham Warburton and Andy McKenzie 88 and Martin Boocock, John Booth and Bob Little 86.

With the vast majority of courses in the region either totally or partly closed due to more heavy rain Vale Royal Abbey beat the odds to provide a great course for a full Alliance field, glad to be in golfing action at a very historic venue.

The star of the day was Lymm assistant pro Graham Cox who led in the individual pro section with 39 points closely followed by Alliance legend Craig Corrigan 38 and Order of Merit leader Phil Archer (Poulton Park) 37.

Graham then found an excellent playing partner in club colleague Sean Haskins to amass 43 points and top the pro am section for a great double.

Hot on their heels were Phil Archer and Stuart Smith (Dunham Forest) 42 and Tim Maxwell (Knutsford) and Mobi Rawthore (Sale) 41.

Tim also won the nearest the pin prize.

Worsley Marriott and Ellesmere players dominated the am am section in a tight contest with John Kilner (Marriott) and Terry O’Mara (Ellesmere) winning a cpo on 40 points from Stephen Hindle (Marriott) and his dad Brian (Ellesmere) who carried his son into the prize list, one more than Norman Haslam (Stand) and Steve Grimley (Walmersley.
