Community fund hands out £23,000 to support groups

STOCKPORT Council says £23,000 of grants have been made since the launch of the Stockport Local Fund Community Support and that every area of Stockport has benefitted.

Community groups that have received awards have included those offering remote mental health counselling and resilience training and emergency food supplies for the vulnerable and isolated.

Groups helping rough sleepers and homeless people and offering home learning support packs for families with pre-school children and infants have also benefitted.

Councillor Amanda Peers, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Neighbourhoods said: “We are working closely with our communities to help the people most affected by the pandemic, including older people, children and families and people on low incomes. In these unprecedented times we want to reassure you that we’re with you, offering a range of support and that there are plenty of people available to call on in your community. The work being done by volunteers is extraordinary and we’re doing all we can to support this effort. As well as offering financial support through Stockport Local Fund: Community Support, we are working with the Stockport community response to ensure that no neighbourhood or resident is missed.
