Celebs quiz locals for hospice funds

-

A HOST of familiar faces have been putting their general knowledge to the test as they turn quiz master to help a local charity raise muchneeded funds.

With lockdown causing many of its fundraising events and activities to be cancelled, St Ann’s Hospice has been holding a series of lunchbreak quizzes, hosted by a different well-known guest quiz-master each week.

Emmerdale’s Chris Bisson and Liam Fox have hosted a session, with voice of Old Trafford Alan Keegan also helping the charity by leading one of the quizzes. Actor Lee Boardman was set to host this week’s virtual event (Wednesday), with Justin Moorhouse and other stars ready to take their turn in supporting the hospice.

Eamonn O’Neal, Chief Executive of St Ann’s, explained: “Everyone is doing quizzes at the moment with their families, and we started to run them for staff in the hospice, and realised that they were tremendously popular. People can sign up for a ticket for the virtual quiz via our website, and can take time out on their Wednesday lunchtime to have some fun, whilst supporting local patients.

“It’s tremendously hard to raise money at the moment, and our hospice teams are so incredibly busy on the front line caring for patients and their loved ones at what is an unimaginably difficult time. We’re hugely grateful to all of the hosts who have kindly given their time to host a quiz, and to all the supporters who have tuned in, had fun, and took part.”

Tickets for the quiz cost just £2.50 and can be purchased by visiting www.sah.org.uk/events and clicking ‘Virtual Lunchtime Quiz.’

Actor Chris Bisson said: “It’s really nice to be able to have a bit of fun and support the charity through these unusual times. Who would have known that quizzes were one of the things to take off during lockdown?”

His Emmerdale co-star Liam Fox, added: “Growing up in Heald Green, everyone knew about the work St Ann’s Hospice does so I’m honoured to try and help in any small way I can, particularly in these tough times.”

Actor Lee Boardman, whose sister was cared for by the charity, explained the reason for his involvement in the quiz series: “I’ll never forget the compassion showed to my family by the staff of St Ann’s Hospice during my sister’s stay. It’s my absolute pleasure to be involved with their vital fundraising efforts.”
