Body found: Man held in murder probe

Human remains found in country park

AMAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a woman. Police were called to Reddish Vale Country Park at around 10.30am on Monday, to reports that a member of the public had found human remains. An investigat­ion has been launched. Police have described it as ‘an isolated incident’.

Officers say that following enquiries, they believe that the remains belong to a woman in her 40s.

Her next of kin have been informed but formal identifica­tion has not yet taken place.

A 48-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He remains in police custody for questionin­g.

There was a significan­t police presence in the park, and on a number of surroundin­g streets.

Police were called to Reddish Vale Country Park at around 10.30am on Monday, to reports that a member of the public had found human remains.

Officers have spent the day at the scene and an investigat­ion has been launched.

They have described it as ‘an isolated incident’.

Detective Superinten­dent Neil Jones, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This is an absolutely devastatin­g incident.

“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones and specialist officers will do everything they can to support them.

“Understand­ably, this news may cause concern within the community but I would like to provide some reassuranc­e by saying that, at this time, we believe that this was an isolated incident.

“Neverthele­ss, there will be increased patrols in the area in the coming days and I would encourage anyone with concerns to speak to those officers.

“Our investigat­ion is in the early stages and, whilst a suspect is in custody being questioned, I would like to use this opportunit­y to appeal to anyone with informatio­n which may assist us with our enquiries to get in touch without delay.”

There was a large police presence on the Lapwing Lane on Tuesday morning with the road into the park blocked off at both ends.

Detectives have been working on a large area overnight, including surroundin­g streets.
