●●PLANS to bring hundreds of new homes to Stockport take another step forward. “This is not a gated community but a new neighbourhood at the heart of the town which will be accessible to all” (page 7)

Suzysunshine Seven: Hundreds of new homes will obviously create an even greater demand on all of the local hospital services, and also on the GP surgeries and dentists, the local schools and childcare, etc. If you are planning to be building hundreds of houses near to Stockport town centre then you surely also have to consider as to whether we actually have all of the necessary and essential local services and resources in place to be ready and able to provide services for and to support everyone? It’s never going to be enough to just keep on making plans for extensive new housing as part of town centre or inner city regeneration projects.

David Gray: Ain’t no pleasing some people. Do they want developers to build on the green belt? This is great for Stockport.

Jill Glenister: All apartments though. No family homes with outdoor space for children to play.

Simon Morrissey Bonehead: More cars on the road in Stockport.

Matt Wynne: 10 mins walking distance is bus & railway station, town centre shops and supermarket you won’t need a car.

Karen Sutton: You are correct. However there are some who believe a car is a “must have”.

●●PARENTS ‘deeply concerned’ after YouTube star encourages youngsters to join him at skate park - despite it being shut since start of lockdown. Claudius Vertesi has been posting videos at a skate park in Stockport which was closed to the public during lockdown (page three)

Michelle Parks: Alexandra Park, Edgeley. Walked through there myself and saw the fencing had been removed and folk were using the ramps.

●●HISTORIC Stockport mill to undergo £60m transformation - 250 new flats will be built in the town centre. Plans for Weir Mill, which stands in the shadow of the town’s iconic viaduct, also include new cafe-bars, delis, independent shops and commercial space (page 4)

A positive move much needed in Stockport. Regeneration by preserving the foundation of Stockport’s history is amazing. I hope this is an welcomed celebration for all with a range offering affordable prices upwards would be a great step forward to have unified community.
