THIS last week is usually one of the biggest in the football calendar.

The FA Cup and FA Trophy would have been played and therefore signified the proper end of the season.

The suggestion is that if football does return and the 2019-2020 season is completed, both competitions are cancelled due of course to the present crisis and in part to the League taking priority (which means there’s more money in the league being completed for the TV).

There doesn’t appear to be much interest in either apart from Norwich who are still in the Cup and see it as a means into Europe which will compensate the very real possibility of them being relegated (money again).

We had some development though this week as the EFL finally voiced an opinion, hooray I hear you shout! Calm down, calm down, all they’ve said is that “in their opinion relegation has to take place” to maintain integrity.

However League One, the Championship and of course the Greedy League still haven’t decided and still seem split. I had a little chuckle in midweek when Mr and Mrs Palios, joint chairs at Tranmere both suggested that the fairest resolution should have promotion but no relegation!

So how would that work? Idiotic and would it surprise anyone that Tranmere are in the League 1 relegation zone? No it wouldn’t.

County, this week, as is custom at this time have published the retained/released lists. At first glance the retained list looks to be very short, Hogan, Maynard, Curran, Keane, Bennet, Arthur and Downing. Seven players which include three youngsters and one who was injured in his first run out in a County shirt.
