Ashes stolen in raid on care home
THIEVES broke into a care home and stole sentimental items from elderly residents including an urn containing a woman’s late husband’s ashes.
The burglary took place at Bamford Close, on Adswood Lane West, in Cale Green.
It is understood the crooks broke into an office and stole two safes.
One safe contained resident’s valuables, while the other contained sentimental items.
Among the stolen items was a 3D wooden heart, engraved with the message ‘Colin Forever In My Heart x.’
The heart belonged to a woman living in the home and contains her late husband’s ashes, as well as a lock of hair.
Weddings rings were also kept in the safe.
The burglary took place between 10pm on Friday, June 5 and 5.30am on Saturday, June 6.
Police have launched an investigation.
No arrests have been made.
PC Steven Watson, of GMP’s Stockport district, said: “This burglary was devastating for the residents of this care home as well as their loved ones. The safe contained items which meant a great deal to them, including wedding rings and an urn.
“I appeal to anyone who finds either safe, any objects which might have been within them or with information which might assist us with our enquiries to contact us as soon as possible.
“We would really like to find these valuables, return them to their owners and for the person(s) responsible to face justice.”
