●●THERE will be a minute’s silence and one more ‘clap of thanks’ for NHS and key workers this weekend. It’s all part of the NHS anniversary weekend as it marks its 72nd birthday (July 3)

Lesley Coups: This will be every week then, cos more people will die, we’ve come off lockdown far too soon and as for re-opening pubs, absolutely stupid idea! Paul Downs: They’re gonna need more than a round of applause when the floodgates open with alcohol and cocaine induced injuries at [Saturday’s] last orders..

●●AS lockdown is further relaxed Jennifer Connolly, Stockport council’s acting director of public health, and Coun Jude Wells, cabinet member for adult care and health, gave their views on the challenges ahead and the lessons learned so far (July 3)

Claire Gaskell: People will not follow the guidelines. My four-yearold nephew understands social distancing better then half the adults in Stockport.

●●SCHOOL ordered to improve by Ofsted after inspection is now rated ‘good’ in all areas. Leaders at Banks Lane Junior School have been praised for turning its fortunes around (page 5):

Rebecca Moynihan: All 3 of my children went there. Never had a problem with the way they were taught in 19 years, always found the teachers and staff helpful and friendly. Jan Place: My daughter went here and did so well and also went on to pass her GCSEs too. Brian Felstead: Just how can this school improve? The teachers and staff [are] second to none. Brilliant school always a waiting list to get in.

Damon Carroll: Mr Milner runs a good ship there he is a good headteacher and has good staff under him.

Irene Wilshaw: Brilliant, well done Georgi! There are some great ones x Pete Shields: Really amazing work, Georgi. Sharon Bartlett: Ran past this this morning, amazed how long it is! Eve Booth Molly: He’s just the cutest. Jean Griffiths: Well done it’s brilliant. Hayley Dockney: We went today, there’s so many. Dave Wilson: It’s over 1,000 now or near enough & still growing strong, well done Georgi.

●●AN outdoor rooftop restaurant and garden is opening in Stockport. The Landing is being opened by Where the Light Gets In chef Sam Buckley (page 7):

Gary Kimber: Fantastic development. Hadeer Muayyad: Hope they would have a veg menu. Clare Hackney: Get us booked in!

●●BEST of luck to Dexter, eight, who is climbing the equivalent height of Everest to raise money for Stockport NHS (July 1):

Pete Shields: Well done Dexter. Very worthy cause and a very caring lad. Sue Windeler Aw what an inspirational young man x Chris Sumner: Well done Dexter keep going you’re doing great. Clare Crowley: Well done, young man. Julie Briscoe: Good on you Dexter, you will smash it.

●●ALL the new rules for pubs before they re-opened on Saturday (June 30):

Joanne Millie Thompson: Giving it a miss, I can’t even go back to work yet ... so I don’t think it’s right I can be in a pub. Josephine Lockwood: Certainly giving it a miss. Might go in a few weeks when everything settles down. Don’t want to undo the time spent in lockdown xx John Kenny: I only use them to watch live music and socializing with friends, looks like a long wait until I have a beer again. Paul Baker: And it’s a no from me, may book a meal in a restaurant on a week-night when it’s not too busy though. Keely McDonough: Don’t go to pubs really anyway so no. I don’t think you will see around here it go mad but in some areas I dread to think. David Wilson: Will avoid the most busy town centre venues but looking forward to a Saturday evening pint at a local venue in Reddish. Good luck to all pubs and social clubs on their long awaited reopening. Glen Routledge Carmody: Not bothering until this virus has been eradicated or a proper vaccine is available. Marie Riley: Why go to the pub when there is pink gin at home? Karen Jayne Scotchford: I’m not rushing out any time soon ..... do feel for the landlords and staff etc .... but think it will be like a task rather than a treat. Mandy Harrison: I understand people are still worried but imo you’ve more chance of catching it in your local supermarket than a pub...if the pubs stick to the rules! I for one will definitely be going for a few well-earned drinks. Sue Treadwell: Has nobody noticed everything’s gone up while lockdown supermarket totally upped there prices and nothing is being done about it. This should have been made a law no hiking price up people on less money and needed to stock up more cannot believe the government has let this happen. Vicky Billington: Definitely giving it a miss. I am working from home and not even been shopping for food since 17th March, barely seen any family so I won’t be risking pubs yet.
