League boosted ahead of kick-off

THE oldest and biggest Saturday amateur football league in the region is looking forward to the new season with an increase in the number of teams.

The Lancashire and Cheshire League, founded in 1909, now has over 60 clubs involving over 80 teams ready and waiting for the new season to begin when the issues with the coronaviru­s are solved for football at this level.

L and C Chairman Mike Yates said: “We have a structure of plans in place which depends on when the season starts on how many divisions, cup competitio­ns etc will be put into place to give all of the participat­ing teams the full chance to have a good programme of games.

“We have seven new clubs joining the league for the new season with a total of 11 teams between them and we will try to fit them into divisions in which they can be competitiv­e and enjoy their football.

“Also some our existing clubs will be entering more teams into the league and they include Irlam Tigers Village Manchester, Radclyffe and Salford Vics

“The new clubs are Hattersley, Woodhouses, Shaw Athletic, Stretford Paddock, Salford Albion, Kartel Sports and Sale Amateurs.”
