Parents kit out school with latest technology
WHILE the school has been closed to many pupils since March, the PTA, Friends of Romiley Primary School (FRPS) remained committed to kitting it out with the latest interactive technology.
Despite the challenges faced during lockdown, FRPS has raised almost £5,000 over the past few months, resulting in the recent installation of two Promethean ActivPanels into the school’s classrooms ready for the start of term.
Following the appointment of a new committee in November 2019, FRPS launched the campaign to kit out the entire school with this technology.
The school’s front of class displays hadn’t been upgraded for more than 18 years.
The new ActivPanel technology in the classroom was a result of a competition win and inspired the Friends to raise funds for every class to benefit.
FRPS chair Cassie Chantrey said: “We had a lot of plans and aspirations for the fundraising campaign during 2020, which unfortunately were impossible to complete due to the coronavirus outbreak. As the school was closed, our attention turned to supporting the school community, ensuring students had social time with their friends, even though they couldn’t physically see them.”
Digital events organised included school discos, virtual playgrounds, quizzes, bingo and Easter egg hunts.
Parents were more actively involved and took it upon themselves to organise the 153 Challenge – a sponsored run or walk for 153km which raised more than £3,700.
A virtual balloon race then raised in excess of £1,000.
