PARENTS and pupils have thanked teachers for their hard work during lockdown with a display of appreciative posters on the school gates.
Teachers at Oak Tree Primary School in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, Greater Manchester were greeted to the site of almost 80 thank you posters on Monday morning.
Parent Natalie Peters and other volunteers of the PTA group ROOTS, organised for the children to draw and create thank you messages for the staff, in recognition of all their hard work during the pandemic. Natalie also said the posters were to thank all the staff at the school including the support staff, teaching assistants, cleaners, office staff, caretakers and everyone involved in keeping the school ticking over.
A lot of the staff are currently in school supporting the children of key workers, while also supporting those pupils who are home schooling.
“We realise how hard their jobs have become, how they are out there, day in day out, unable to keep themselves safe at home and we wanted to do a little something to show our appreciation,” said Natalie, who has three children school.
“I thought, as a little added extra, it might be nice for the staff working tirelessly, to see a bit of a public thank you from the Oak Tree Community.
“It’s such a lovely school.”
Over the weekend Natalie collected the pictures and while keeping it a secret from staff, some of whom are also parents at the school, laminated them and put them up on the school gates on Queen’s Road.

Finally, youngest sibling Zack, seven, drew a picture of himself outside of the school with a message saying thank you for coming to school teachers.
Fellow parent Alexia Owens helped Natalie put up the posters and said: “It just shows how grateful we are that our children are so well supported at this time, and that we do appreciate just how hard the staff are working to make it all happen!”
Headteacher Mrs Slater said that all the staff were really missing the pupils.
She said: “We are doing everything we can to keep connected.
“The school definitely feels different.
“So imagine our surprise on a cold Monday morning to be greeted by such appreciation.
“Our parents are amazing and so supportive. It gave us all a real boost to know that we are all appreciated so much.
She also shared the thoughts of some of her colleagues on their surprise.
Year four teacher Mrs Jackson said: “What a lovely surprise! To be thanked in such a thoughtful way in these challenging times really cheered us all up. It’s a pleasure to be working in such a caring community.” Miss Farnsworth, another year four teacher added: “I couldn’t believe it when I drove in and saw all the gorgeous posters from our school families.
“It was so lovely to read all the supportive messages from children across the age groups and a wonderful way to start the week.
Finally, year one teacher Miss Cowell said: “It was a lovely surprise to arrive to on a Monday morning and really put a smile on my face.
“I feel so fortunate to work at a school with such kind children and supportive parents.”
