‘It’s more than a project, it represents a bright future’

-

A CHARITY has begun work on a new £50m project which will see them build a new school and campus.

Seashell, a national charity supporting children and young adults with complex learning disabilities, based in Cheadle Hulme, said the project will take five years to complete.

Builders began construction on February 1 with the first phase of the project expected to be completed by autumn 2022.

The project, which has been years in the making, will build a new school and redevelop the existing college at the current site on Stanley Road.

It will create a new site entrance and reception building, build a new four-court sports hall, gym, pavilion, training facilities, community engagement and administration facilities as well as a new assessment and early years centre.

Seashell chief executive and principal, Jolanta McCall, described the start of the project as a ‘truly momentous for all of the Seashell community.’

She said: “We have worked incredibly hard to get ‘Project Transformation’ off the ground and I am delighted to see work start.

“This is more than a building project. It represents a bright future for children and young people with complex learning disabilities and I am looking forward to the exciting milestones ahead of us.

“We will continue to innovate and fundraise and deliver the very best for all our students and residents as we develop the facilities for the future.”

Seashell provides education and care, from two-25 years, at its current school and campus for those with complex learning disabilities and additional communication needs from across the UK.

The first phase of the construction project will see a new school developed, expected to open in autumn 2022, and a new site entrance and reception building, again expected to open in autumn 2022. ●●PROJECT Transformation is being delivered by construction experts Wilmott Dixon, and any residents who have any questions about the development should email ProjectTransformation@ seashelltrust.org.uk.
