‘Inspirational’ school recognised
A SECONDARY school has been recognised as one of the region’s most ‘inspirational’ schools at a north west education awards ceremony.
Stockport Academy in Cheadle Heath was nominated in the ‘Most Inspirational Secondary School’ category alongside four other schools at the The Educate Awards 2020.
Now in its ninth year, the awards celebrate excellence in schools across Merseyside, Cheshire, Lancashire and Greater Manchester.
A virtual awards ceremony was held on Friday January 29, but unfortunately Stockport Academy missed out on the top prize.
Litherland High School scooped the top award in the inspirational secondary school category while Archbishop Blanch School, also in Liverpool, was runner up.
However, the judges were full of praise for the Stockport school describing it as an ‘aspirational, enriching, proud and generous community’ where ‘staff want students to remember school as a time of enjoyment and fascination in learning about themselves and the world around them.’
Principal Janine McCann said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised as one of the most inspirational secondary schools.
“This recognition is testament to our students, staff, governors and families who work hard to create a thriving learning experience in everything we do.
“This recognition reflects our mission to provide our students with an ‘Education with Character’ as part of which we seek to develop our students into responsible, articulate and ambitious young adults.
“Our students are always ready to take on new challenges and try things they have never done before.
“They constantly amaze me with what they are achieving and truly are an inspiration to everyone around them.”
Stockport Academy has received a number of accolades recently, including the National Safeguarding Initiative Award in recognition of its excellent standard of care provided to students and their families during the first national lockdown last year.
Kim O’Brien, founder of the Educate Awards, said: “A huge congratulations to all the winning schools and colleges.
“I would also like to say a big well done to the runners-up, those who were shortlisted and everyone who took the time to enter last year.
“It has been really tough for those working in schools and we are so pleased that we have managed to find a way to shine a spotlight on the hard work and dedication that goes on inside and outside of school. We hope this has given a much-needed lift to those in education, given the incredibly challenging times.”
