Fifth teen arrested over carjack death

AFIFTH teenager has been arrested in relation to the death of a restaurant owner who was killed during a carjacking

Mohammed Islam, known as Nowab Miah, was hit by his own Mercedes whilst delivering a takeaway in Romiley on January 8.

An 18-year-old man was arrested in Hyde earlier today (Tuesday 2 March) on suspicion of conspiracy to steal. He remains in custody waiting to be quizzed by detectives.

Two 18-year-old boys were previously arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to steal and have been released on bail.

A 14-year-old boy has already been charged with Mr Islam’s murder and is due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Monday, 5 July. He cannot be named for legal reasons.

A second 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of murder and has since been bailed with conditions.

The 58-year-old father had been delivering his last takeaway of the day on Hazel Avenue in Romiley when the carjacking occurred.

Police were called just after 9pm to the junction of Lyme Grove to find Mr Islam had been struck by his own Mercedes.

He was taken to hospital where he sadly did on Sunday 10 January, prompting police to launch a murder investigat­ion.
