●●TONY FREEMAN

Tony, from Cheadle, was the beloved partner of the late May Embrey, father of Steven, Dianne, Dawn, Eric and Toni and father-in-law to Janet, Gareth, Andy, Andrew and Adam.

He was grandad to Rebecca, Sam, Alex, James, Lewis, Emma, Jack and Harry.

Tony’s family said he was an immensely proud and determined man who took great happiness in all his children, their families and their achievements.

He loved to find unique pubs and was very sociable - never happier than sitting in the pub nattering to old and new acquaintances.

He had a great of practical skills from different jobs including plumbing, telecoms and gas engineering.

Tony loved hiking and exploring remote parts of the British Isles - he was hugely proud of completing the Wolds Way, Offa’s Dyke and the Pennine Way which he did several times.

Once retired he swapped hiking holidays for luxury cruises, insisting on a beer in every port and exploring the local sites that were generally off route.

He loved snooker, both playing and watching, and it did not matter if you did not follow it because you could guarantee that by the time you left him you would know the latest tactics, who had won what frame and what the score was whether you wanted to know or not!

Since the loss of his beloved May, he moved to a lovely flat and swapped his car for a mobility scooter.

In the summer he loved to bob around Cheadle and Abney Hall meeting up with family and friends, then going home to sit on his bench watching the birds with a brew and having a chinwag with neighbours.

Tony sadly died aged 81 at Stepping Hill Hospital on February 9, 2021.

He tested positive for Covid-19 the day before.

Paying tribute, Toni Brosnahan said: “A grieving family, an empty house, an empty chair, A fathers love no longer there.

“Broken hearts, tear filled eyes, another soul in the sky.

“The times we shared, The laughs we had, Things we miss when we think of our DAD.

“Loved and missed always and forever, until we meet again. Love you Dad xxxxx”
