Twitching among the frontrunners

- FAN’S VIEW IAN DOOLEY

AND so they started to blink! On a weekend when we didn’t play due to the “Dover situation”, County’s position strengthened. First Hartlepool were beaten at home by 10 man Maidenhead then Torquay could only manage a home draw to Bromley.

It means we’re four points above the Monkey Hangers with a game in hand and, with a game on Torquay, plus we have to play them, it means with a far superior goal difference, we can go above them which just leaves Sutton?

Sutton seem able to grind out results but they have to play Hartlepool and Maidenhead, so there’s a chance they may drop points. It’s possible, so we just have to keep on winning and who knows, we might just be National League champions by the end of the month.

Football has turned ugly again this week with both Grimsby and Southend seeking a legal challenge that will see relegation from the Football League suspended.

It’s a shame when clubs think they can get away with such things, they’ve been awful all season but waited until they were down before launching the stunt.

They weren’t bothered when they looked safe and Barrow or Scunthorpe might be facing the drop.

It has all the arrogance of the European Super League and should be treated in the same manor.

The same, to a certain extent, can be said of Dover and why we had a free weekend.

Jim Parmenter the Dover chairman threw his toys out of his pram months ago.

He saw a chance to keep his league status while saving himself a high amount of money, there was to my mind no punishment, he still has the kudos of being the chairman of a football club while his players have been scattered in the wind and the club’s supporters have had nothing to cheer for ages.

He has a responsibility to maintain the club or sell it.

Politics over. By the time you read this we will have played Dagenham & Redbridge, a team in form yes but four of those wins were over the bottom four and frankly at the moment, anyone can beat Barnet, King’s Lynn, Weymouth and Wealdstone, so I’ve no fear for Tuesday night, the big test will be next Sunday when Torquay and the BT cameras visit EP.

It’s a huge game and it’s a real pity that we couldn’t get it switched to Monday and got a crowd in, think of the kudos?
