Bob comes to rescue of woman in distress

- ADAM MAIDMENT

AWORKER at Asda has been praised for his generosity after a mum was left ‘distressed and stranded’ in a supermarket car park when her car broke down.

The mum from Stockport, who does not wish to be named, was looking after her six-week-old baby on Monday (May 10) who was ill with digestive problems at the time.

Having trekked across Manchester with a family friend to find a pharmacy with the right medication for her baby, she ended up in the Asda Stockport store.

On returning to her car, she discovered that her vehicle wouldn’t start and the battery had died.

Sharing her experience in a post on social media, which has received more than 1.6k likes, the mum said she was going through ‘the day where everything went wrong’.

“The battery had died and as things couldn’t get worse, it started to absolutely chuck it down with heavy rain and I couldn’t get the electric windows to go up,” the mum said.

“My baby was getting drenched and was screaming. Enough was enough for me and I burst into tears.”

Thankfully, another customer nearby saw her distress and assisted.

“He went to Asda to buy some jump leads but they didn’t have any,” she adds.

“He then went rallying around the car park in the pouring rain asking everyone and anyone in sight for a set of jump leads to get us going again.

“He was then joined by Bob, who worked for Asda, in the car park wearing a high vis.

“Between them they managed to find someone who had some jump leads and got my car started while I just sat there and cried helplessly.

“They were wet through afterwards and so was the inside of my car.

“I really had the day from hell and these guys saved me from having a mental breakdown as well as a mechanical one.”

The mum said she wanted to share what had happened to show her appreciation for what the two men had done for her.

“Thank you so much for what seemed to you like a little helping hand but to me was a life saver,” she added.

“We really need more people like you about and the world would be a much happier place.”

Following the post on social media, the mum said she had been in touch with Asda to put in a good word for Bob.

She has not yet been able to find the identity of the kind customer, who had a black car, in order to thank them directly.

Speaking to the Express, Bob Normansell, who is from Offerton and has worked at the Asda Stockport store for five years, said it was just ‘part of the job’.

“I noticed there was a customer looking quite stressed in the car park, so I went over to see what the problem was,” Bob said.

“She had an issue with her car not starting and had a young child with her that was crying and wasn’t very well.

“I am just glad we were on hand to get her on her way and get her poorly child back home safely.”

Lee Buckley, manager at the Asda Stockport store, added: “Bob is such a kind and passionate colleague who is always on hand to help out any customers who need support.

“He is a much-loved member of the team and is often being recognised by our customers for his friendly attitude and dedication to his role.

“I am so proud of him for how he has gone above and beyond.”
