A77-YEAR-OLD man who died after a horror crash on the M60 has been named.

David Faulkner was fatally injured when a BMW - believed to be stolen - collided with his Vauxhall on the motorway near Stockport on Thursday, 27 May.

The BMW, which was being driven by 18-year-old Brandon Geasley Pryde, is understood to have been travelling on the wrong side of the carriageway at the time of the crash.

Both Mr Faulkner and Mr Geasley Pryde were pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash has since been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

In a statement, the police watchdog said that at around 10.15pm on May 27, police saw a black BMW travelling on Altrincham Road towards the Sharston Link.

The car was believed to be stolen, and after the driver failed to stop for officers, a pursuit began.

The BMW is understood to have travelled onto the M56 and then the M60, before leaving the motorway at junction 27 for Stockport East.

It drove back onto the M60, travelling on the wrong side of the carriageway in the direction of oncoming traffic, the watchdog said.

The BMW was then involved in a crash with a red Vauxhall being driven by Mr Faulkner.

It is understood the BMW was not being chased in the seconds before the crash at around 11pm.

A section of the M60 was closed off in both directions for around nine hours afterwards, before fully reopening at 9.30am on May 28.

Mr Faulkner’s next of kin have been informed, and are being supported by specially trained officers.

An inquest into his death is due to open at South Manchester Coroner’s Court next week, public documents published today have said.

A 40-year-old man has since been charged over the theft of the BMW.

James Fraser, of Bosden Fold, Stockport has been charged with one count of burglary and one count of taking a vehicle without consent.

He has been remanded into custody ahead of an appearance at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court.

Police were called around 2.50pm on Thursday (May 27) to a business premises on Priest Street in Stockport to a report of a burglary.

The victim could not find their bag, before realising while searching for it that their BMW X4 had also been stolen from where it had been parked in the morning.

Detectives believe the BMW is the same vehicle that was involved in the crash on the M60 a number of hours later.
