Alex hopes to be shed boy with garden pub
AGASTROPUB built in a back garden has been nominated in a shed of the year competition.
Alex Reynolds, who lives in Cheadle Heath with fiancée Zoe, is one of three on the shortlist in the ‘Pub/Entertainment’ in the Cuprinol’s Shed Of The Year competition for his pub ‘The Snug’.
A joiner by trade, Alex, 34, decided to build the pub after moving to Stockport from Durham.
He had already built a shed-pub for a friend back in Durham and decided their new Cheadle home needed one too, as they moved during the first lockdown.
“We wanted to try to keep a feeling of normality of ‘going to the pub’ on a weekend, albeit being a shed in the garden,” said Alex, who works for a building company in Chorley.
“That’s where the idea of The Snug was born – we couldn’t go to the nice pubs around us, so we brought a gastropub to the back garden! “We were supposed to get married this year in Spain, but we were forced to postpone our wedding until April 2022 due to the pandemic.
“We are currently in a rented property, so we were over the moon when the landlord said we could put a shed up in the garden.”
The pub has since been taken down and rebuilt in Durham, as a surprise 60th birthday present for Zoe’s mum.
The garden company’s shed of the year competition is in its 15th year and will see 22 finalists go head-to-head across the nine categories.
A winner from each will be decided by public vote, before a panel of shed experts decide the overall winner, who will win a £1,000 prize.
