Man stabbed multiple times in a ‘shocking’ attack

AMAN walking home with his girlfriend was stabbed multiple times in a ‘shocking’ attack outside a takeaway.

The 21-year-old was walking towards Houldswort­h Square in Reddish in the early hours the morning, when he became involved in an ‘altercatio­n’ with two males, Police said. The males, one of whom was on crutches, then proceeded to viciously attack him near an unnamed takeaway before fleeing in a black car.

He suffered multiple stab wounds and a ‘serious’ facial injury, GMP added.

A teenage boy has now been arrested in connection with the ‘shocking’ attack in Reddish.

The 21 year-old victim was walking home towards Houldswort­h Square with his friends and his girlfriend at around 1am in the early hours of Sunday June 6, when we became involved in an ‘altercatio­n’ with two males, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

The males, had been carrying a knife, and one of whom was on crutches then proceeded to viciously attack him near an unnamed takeaway before fleeing in a black car.

Police and paramedics were called and the man was rushed to hospital.

He had suffered multiple stab wounds and a ‘serious’ facial injury GMP added.

He remained in hospital for treatment GMP said.

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault occasionin­g grievous bodily harm. He has since been released on bail pending further investigat­ion.

However, detectives stress their enquiry is ongoing and they are urging any witnesses or anyone who may have any informatio­n to come forward.

Detective Constable Ellie Cartwright, of GMP’s Stockport division, said: “This is a shocking incident which has resulted in a man requiring hospital treatment for his injuries.

“Although we have arrested one person, our investigat­ion is still very much ongoing.

“We would like to reassure the public that we are following all available lines of enquiry to establish the full circumstan­ces of this incident and locate the second offender as quickly as possible.

“If anyone witnessed this incident or has any informatio­n at all, please speak to police as soon as possible.

“Even the smallest piece of informatio­n could prove vital in helping us to complete our enquiries”
