New mayor drops in to get his second jab
THE new Mayor of Stockport received his second dose of the Covid vaccine during the first full day of his new role.
Coun Adrian Nottingham was officially sworn in during a ceremony last month after he was appointed to the post following the recent council elections.
He replaces previous mayor Dean Fitzpatrick.
Mayor Cllr Nottingham visited Heald Green Village Hall vaccination centre to raise awareness of the importance of getting both doses of the vaccine.
As well as receiving his second dose, Cllr Nottingham thanked staff and volunteers at the centre for their tireless work in delivering the vaccination programme.
He said: “The Covid vaccination programme has helped to keep thousands of people safe across Stockport.
“It was important to me that my first appointment as Mayor has been to spotlight the amazing work being done at this vaccination centre and those across the borough and beyond.
“I would stress that the vaccine is safe, very accessible, and the one vital step that we can all take towards getting our communities and local businesses fully operating again.”
Mayor Cllr Nottingham urged Stockport residents to take up their offer of the vaccine as he said it was the best long-term solution to stop the spread of the virus.
Jen Connolly, Director of Public Health at Stockport Council, added: “With coronavirus cases still present in Stockport, and the circulation of the new variants, it’s absolutely crucial that the people of Stockport gets both doses of their vaccination – just like the Mayor has.
“This is because only both doses give full protection against Covid.”
Book your vaccination online, or call 119 when your cohort is called. You do not need to be registered at a GP, or give your NHS number to get your vaccine.
