●PLANS for a new £14m ‘cultural hub’ in Stockport could be put at risk if residents say they don’t want to move the town’s library service there (July 2):

Sheryl Roden: A library in a shopping centre is not appealing to me. It’s somewhere you go that is quiet and tranquil not two words I would use for Merseyway. Central Library is near the train station and bus station. It also has accessible parking at the rear. It’s a beautiful building. Not something that can be said for Merseyway. Are all the services and archive that you can use at Central Library going to be available at the

Hub? I can only imagine the revolt there would be if this was Manchester Central Library! Amanda Wood: As much as the old building is lovely, I see this as a positive move. Hopefully the old library would be repurposed. Carl Smith: Surely moving the library into the town centre will increase footfall to both the precinct and the library, and make it more accessible to everyone? I like the old building and hope it can be repurposed, but in the current climate, it could also bring in muchneeded money to the council. But that is my humble opinion.
