Bake sale gives thanks to NHS staff

-

STOCKPORT NHS Charity were proud to help people raise a cuppa and buy a cake to celebrate the 73rd birthday of the NHS.

The charity held a bake sale at Stepping Hill Hospital as part of the ‘NHS Big Tea’ celebrations, the nation’s biggest tea break giving thanks to NHS staff for their efforts following the difficult and harsh year of the pandemic.

The sale benefitted from kind donations from local bakers and bakeries including Crossley’s Bakery, The Strawberry Spatula and Charlotte’s Cakes, as well as from star bakers from the hospital’s own staff.

Stockport NHS Foundation Trust’s volunteers helped out with the sale, and the trust’s Chair Tony Warne and Chief Executive Karen James OBE joined in too.

Staff from community sites also held their own bake sales as part of the campaign, and many supporters from across

Stockport and the surrounding areas also took part holding events in cafes, restaurants and offices.

The cake sale at the hospital raised £500 on the day, with further donations from the community to follow.

Stockport NHS Charity were one of 150 NHS charities in the country taking part in the nation-wide event organised by NHS

Charities Together, an independent national charity partner and umbrella organisation of the NHS based within hospitals, mental health trusts, ambulance trusts, community health trusts and health boards across the UK.

Stockport NHS Charity Manager Jenny Clarke said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you for everyone who baked, donated and volunteered to support our NHS Big Tea.

“The money raised will be a real boost to our efforts to help improve the health and wellbeing of our patients and staff, so we can continue to go above and beyond for them, whatever circumstance we face.”
