Getting geared up for big race day

- IAN BROWN

I FOUND myself helping out at Stockport Harriers Schools Cross Country Taster event this weekend and it was useful practise for the ‘big one’ when the Supporters Cooperative puts on its flagship event the Stockport Hatters Half Marathon on Sunday 5 September.

Race Director John Giles has since confirmed that thus far 180 runners have signed up to take on the challenge provided by this excellent trail/ road race.

The numbers so far pledged to run are very encouraging bearing in mind the multiple uncertainties surrounding putting on such an event with the Covid situation to be taken into consideration.

We look well set for between 300 and 400 on 5 September!

Planning for the event is going well so runners will find the usual welcome mix of warm hospitality allied to inch perfect organisation awaiting them.

Those runners who have not yet entered can do so ( £20 affiliated /£22 unaffiliated) via www. hattershalf.co.uk. and we look forward to greeting them at Edgeley Park.

Our team of marshals, attracts fulsome praise from runners every year, and we aim to provide the same special service again.

To join this team and enjoy the uniquely special atmosphere of the event contact Race Director John Giles at johngiles20@hotmail. com.

The proceeds from this year’s event will be given to the Danny Bergara Statue Appeal, and we will be encouraging runners to support this effort to raise £50,000 to erect a statue of County’s charismatic former manager outside Edgeley Park.

Elsewhere we can confirm that we will have our popular ‘Football Season Calendar’ ready from the printers within the next 10-14 days, and supporters can obtain their copy either from Cooperative board members on matchday , starting 2 August v City, at our new pre-match site, or by post or collection by arrangement.
