●●TAYLORS fish and chips in Woodley precinct has been named one of the best chippies in the country! (page 4):

Elle May Smith: Haven’t been there but sounds good, well done Rebecca Blakeman: The Great Moor Fish & Chips by far the best Roger Callan: Fantastic! Well done. Keith Miles: Got too have deep pockets, it’s not the cheapest in the area. Emma Bardsley: No chicken breast, not my kind of chippy! Dawn Z. Cullen: Do they make their own proper mushy peas? Josh Cz: SK6 Institution mate Pam Wildgoose: Matts plaice in Bredbury Christine Mccue TitherShawcross: Taylor’s and Matts - the best chippy by far Norman James: Fantastic Chippy. The Fish is so Fresh. Everything is quality. The Fryery on Edgeley is also a Fantastic Chippy Lou B Lally: Been going to it for over 40 years. Saw me through my teens, when my parent went on holidays and left me to fend for myself. Chip barm and fish bits Lisa Marie Scott: I used to go in there all the time when I saw friends. Very nice chippy ●●THE government has announced funding to develop proposals to reinstate a passenger rail line between Ashtonunder-Lyne and Stockport. The Budget includes £500m to restore transport services lost in the Beeching cuts of the 1960s (page 7):

Andrew Chambers:

What’s interesting about this, is that it seems in addition the 1billion+ already mentioned for public transport and Metrolink. So, what would this rail link be? My guess is the Metrolink option to connect to Stockport, which in turn will connect to Didsbury and one may become part of an orbital line. The reason I am guessing this is the case is that while a heavy rail line could be built, our existing railways are at full capacity and they couldn’t easily add more trains to the network - not until after HS2 & NPR remove the express trains from the line - but that’s not for a long time.

Mark Gene Hunt Newman:

The cost should be fairly minimal as there is already a parliamentary service between Stockport and Stalybridge which runs on a Monday. As usual this seems to be geared towards Ashton AGAIN who manage to get any funding that comes into Tameside. Stalybridge train station has five platforms and could easily cope with the extra services. Jack Waller: I’ve done some work on the line before. There was a tram train idea that would run on the current tram network from Ashton before running on the rail network. It would then come off at Heaton Chapel and run on the street to Stockport Town Centre where it could run onwards to either the airport or Didsbury. As you rightly say there isn’t the capacity for a rail service at Stockport or Manchester Victoria so I think that’s a bit of a non-starter. ●●THE National Living Wage for millions of Brits is set to rise to £9.50 an hour, the Treasury has confirmed. The 59p rise means a full-time worker on the living wage would see their annual income jump by more than £1,000 (Oct 26):

Jackie Hyland: And then it will be all swallowed back higher in higher tax more expensive food and utilities just the government gaslighting again Barry Moult: Still pathetic and no family can live on that Mark Lloyd: Minimum wage going up from £8.91 to £9.50 . Very crafty way of raising money from employers without people blaming the Government. Someone working 40 hours on minimum wage will see their GROSS pay go up by £1,227. But even at current NI rates and tax ( 12% NI for employees and 20% tax) their NET pay will only go up by £834 . So the Government will be collecting approx £393 per year in extra revenue. Don’t forget NI rates for everyone are increasing by 1.25% in the next tax year. ---- Also even with the Universal credit clawback dropping from 63% to 55% , the Government will pay less UC to working families because of the minimum wage rise. ●●STOCKPORT County parted with manager Simon Rusk after a difficult start to the season. In the interim, First Team Coach Dave Conlon will take the helm, with the support of the wider coaching staff:

David Seeds: Took an experienced businessman a long time to realise that things were nowhere near right. Andy Turner: Never nice to see someone lose their job. I wish him all the best for the future Mel Bailey: Good riddance
