ASUPERMARKET worker has been praised after he went the extra mile, quite literally, to help one customer.

Ali, who works in security for the Asda in Hazel Grove, pushed a woman in a wheelchair for an entire mile after she was dropped off at the wrong pharmacy for her Covid-19 vaccine.

The woman was recovering from a broken hip and was taken to Asda in a mobility taxi.

Ali noticed that she was upset and asked what was wrong.

At first he asked if any of his colleagues could give her a lift - but due to her hip she was unable to get into any of their cars. Ali then decided to push her down the A6 in the store’s wheelchair to ensure she made her appointment - and she was laughing and singing as she went.

Store manager Chelsey said: “Heroes don’t wear capes. At Asda Hazel Grove, they wear a security fleece and deliver exceptional service with a smile. Ali is brilliant - you won’t find a more caring person in your life.”

Ali has now been given an Asda Customer Service Award for his kind act.

The Stockport worker is now going viral - with hundreds of shoppers praising Ali for going out of his way to help the woman.

Michelle Henderson said in a Facebook comment: “Aww I love Ali he’s always so cheerful and helpful. So happy he’s got the recognition he deserves!”

Another customer, Jennifer Hall, said: “Super, this is my supermarket you’ll be getting a well done when I come in.”

And Matt Minahan said: “Spot on, the security guards at that store are always so helpful to the elderly folk.”

In a Facebook post, store manager Chelsey said: “Ali noticed that the customer was upset and

enquired what was wrong.

“She told him that she’d been dropped off in a mobility taxi at the wrong place.

“At first he asked if any of our colleagues could drop her at the pharmacy down the road but unfortunately, due to her hip, she was unable to get in any of the cars.
