Eyebrows raised at the Alty call off

THE festive fixture list threw up Solihull Moors for an away game on the 28th.

Not too far for the travelling faithful and as you’d imagine there were plenty of takers for what proved to be a very good game and for County, a chance to claim a play-off spot.

Moors’ recent results were a mixed bag, they’d been dropping points both home and away so I really fancied our chances.

The Flyer arrived in plenty of time (the M6, M42 were surprisingly quiet) and the atmosphere was slowly brewing.

By kick off it was rocking in the small terrace we’d been allocated.

The game was a cracker, both sides having plenty of chances. It has to be said that their keeper, Ryan Boot, was outstanding, how he wasn’t named as MOTM I’ll never know!

He made save after save from Madden, Quigley, Crankshaw and when he was finally beaten it took a moment of genius to do it.

Paddy Madden, with the perfect header, sent the ball looping over his head and into the far corner.

Pandemonium in the away end and the volume went up.

There was still 15 minutes to go and the home side gave it their all but the mighty County defence stood strong to see out the game.

A great day out for all concerned and another one on the way!

Well we hoped for another great away day but Altrincham called off the fixture!

Now call me a cynic if you like but it seems to me that some clubs are able to use the current Covid crisis to suit their own ends.

When they announced the cancelation they cited “injuries and two cases of Covid” but if you look at their squad list they have 36 named players, eight more then we have!

So surely they had enough fit players and were able to put a team out?

Maybe they were just scared we’d put another five in their net.

If there is a positive to take from the situation it’s that Alty will hopefully be able to complete their ground repairs and we might be able to get more tickets for the away end.

We now face the fact that we’ve five games in January starting with the Trophy game against Larkhall on the 15th and then six games in February that is of course as long as there are no more postponements.
