Choir appeals for new voices to get in tune

-

DO you have hidden singing talents that deserve to be heard on stage to a wider audience than perhaps just your own family and friends?

If so, a Stockport-based choir with a proud musical heritage is on the lookout for new members.

The St Ann’s Hospice Festival Choir has raised almost £800,000 over more than three decades for the charity which bears its name.

Their next concert is ‘Summer Celebrations’ at Stockport Town Hall on Sunday, June 12, at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available via www.hospicechoir.org.

The event, which includes a tribute to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, is one of two fundraising concerts each year, with rehearsals on eight successive Fridays (7.15pm - 9.30pm) beforehand.

Rehearsals start on Friday, April 22, at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church with anyone interested welcome to attend.

Choir chair Rosemary Murray said: “If you enjoy singing and would like to join us, we’d love you to come along to a rehearsal.

“There you’ll get to know what kind of music we’re going to sing and can hear the voices come together.

“You can either join in, or just sit and listen.

“Our music includes a wide variety of genre. “It’s an eclectic mix from traditional folk songs, through to musicals and swing, modern as well as old. The buzz from performing is so uplifting for both the audience and choir.

“When we perform a new piece of music it sounds amazing in vocal harmony.’’

Rosemary added: “Music is also good therapy! People were zinging when we met up again after the pandemic for our last concert.’’
