Party starved of joy by food ‘no-show’

ACOUPLE were left furious after their engagement party was ruined when their Deliveroo order went missing.

Husni Mashoor, 29, proposed to his fiance in Sri Lanka about two weeks ago.

Upon returning the UK, one of the couple’s friends threw a party at her home in Heaton Moor, on Friday to celebrate the happy news. But Mr Mashoor says the evening was spoiled when the food they had ordered for family and friends failed to show up.

The group had used the Deliveroo app to order £66 worth of food from Don Tacos in Wilmslow Road, Rusholme. Almost two hours after placing the order, Mr Mashoor said his friend received a phone call from a Deliveroo driver, who then demanded a “two-digit code” to complete the delivery.

The code was given and the app updated to say the order had been delivered.

However, Mr Mashoor said the group did not receive their food.

“Through the app, it looked like it had been delivered but we had no food,” he explained. “It said the delivery time was 9.17pm which was the time the rider made the call to us.

“It ruined the evening. This was a dinner party hosted to celebrate our engagement with our closest friends and family. We were all starving and had to go to McDonald’s and ended up eating at about 11pm.”

Mr Mashoor, who lives in Heald Green, says his friend contacted Deliveroo to ask for a refund and to warn the company about what had happened. However, he said the food delivery firm claimed there was “nothing they could do”.

After being contacted, Deliveroo issued an apology to Mr Mashoor and agreed to refund the order.

However, Mr Mashoor says he has been left “angry” by Deliveroo’s initial response.

“They said that because the code was given, it will not be refunded,” he said. “They said you should only give it at the front door.

“We couldn’t quite believe it. It’s unbelievable that you can treat a customer like that.

“We want to warn other customers not to give away that code and make the same mistake we did.”

A spokesperson for Deliveroo said: “We were very sorry to hear that Mr Mashoor’s order didn’t arrive and, having investigated, we can see that something’s gone wrong on this occasion. We’ve apologised to the customer and offered a full refund alongside a gesture of goodwill.”
