Libraries book in for jubilee fun
LIBRARIES across the borough are hosting special events to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
The family-friendly events feature a range of activities including story times, arts and crafts workshops, writing exercises and tea and biscuits breaks.
Councillor Grace Baynham, Cabinet Member for Highways, Parks and Leisure Services said: “There is so much to look forward to with The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Weekend, we are excited to celebrate with communities across the borough with a range of events that everyone can join in with!
“It’s shaping up to be a truly spectacular Jubilation period and I encourage all residents and their families to come along and experience this historic weekend in Stockport.
“The Jubilation Station project is the perfect opportunity to become a real part of history, and have a tangible souvenir of your involvement in the Jubilee weekend.”
A coffee morning at Heatons Library has been arranged for Wednesday, June 1, from 10.30am11.30am.
Stockport Together have announced their Jubilee celebration community free fun day on the Saturday, June 4 at Adswood Young Peoples Centre from 12pm-4pm.
Visitors of all ages will have a chance to make origami crowns and swans, and join in story time events for children at the Stockport Libraries stall.
To coincide with the Jubilee Street Party on Saturday, June 4 Stockport Central Library will also be taking part in a story time and craft event, from 10.30 am – 11.30 am.
Following the Jubilee weekend, on the Tuesday, June 21, One Stockport Hub will be delivering a unique project with the help of artist Thomas Byrn.
Funded by Time to Read and more than fifteen library authorities, ‘Jubilation’ is the name of the project that has been set up to collect celebratory stories from library users and community groups based in North West England.
Visit the ‘Jubilation Station’ for tea and biscuits, a friendly chat and the opportunity to participate in and share stories through a gentle writing exercise about celebrating a special occasion.
This project will be touring 15 libraries throughout the North West, and the culmination of these stories will result in the publication of a book called ‘Jubilation: A Collection of Celebration Stories’.
This book will then be available to borrow and read both physically and digitally from Stockport libraries.
Attendees are encouraged to share their stories, as your tale could well end up being featured in this special publication.
